چکیده

The latest results about the evolutionary, biogeographic, and population genetic relationships of the three species comprising the percid fi sh genus Perca are presented, explained, and discussed. New analyses from new data dated the origin of the genus to an estimated 19.8 million years ago (mya) during the early Miocene Epoch, and the distribution of ancestral Perca likely extended across the North Atlantic Land Bridge until the mid-Miocene. The earliest evolutionary bifurcation led to the diversifi cation of the European perch P. fl uviatilis from the lineage shared by the common ancestor of the North American yellow perch 1 Great Lakes Genetics/Genomics Laboratory, Lake Erie Center and Department of Environmental Sciences, The University of Toledo, Toledo, OH, 43615, USA. 2 Limnological Institute, University of Konstanz, Mainaustrasse 252, 78457 Konstanz, Germany. Evolutionary change driven by metal exposure as revealed by coding SNP genome scan in wild yellow perch (Perca flavescens).

Pollution can drive rapid evolutionary change in wild populations. This study targets functional polymorphisms of chronically metal-contaminated wild yellow perch (Perca flavescens). A de novo transcriptome scan contrasted subsets of individuals from clean (n = 16) and contaminated (n = 16) lakes to identify 87 candidate annotated coding SNPs. Candidate genotypes and liver [metal] were obtained...

Evolutionary ecotoxicology of wild yellow perch (Perca flavescens) populations chronically exposed to a polymetallic gradient.

Depending on such factors as the intensity and duration of the exposure, and the genetic diversity and connectedness of the starting population, exposure to elevated metal concentrations can result in population level alterations such as demographic bottlenecks or metal-induced selection. These processes can be revealed using a population genetic approach, and have important implications with r...

On-farm tests show higher production, growth rate and survival of improved yellow perch

in the Proceedings of the World Aquaculture Society Conference. Page 1142. February 22-25, 2013. Nashville. Yellow perch Perca flavescens is a particularly important aquacultural and ecological species in the Great Lakes Region (GLR)and the Midwest USA. The demand for this species has remained very high in the GLR. Due to the relatively slow growth of currently cultured populations of yellow pe...
